Our brief was to create inviting natural spaces that provide a sense of connection between classrooms. We worked closely with the school to create a 10 year master plan to ensure the future development of over 20 areas, all tied together with a cohesive overall vision for the school. This process helped the school prioritise and stage the initial build.
The first stage has injected some love into tired spaces, from hangout spots and hubs between classrooms, through to a tiered deck to look out across the sports field. Our team completed these builds during the school term with minimal to no disruption to the operation of the school. We can't wait to get back and complete the remaining stages over the years to come!
Natural - all the way - was the brief for this new childcare centre. An additional factor was the need to incorporate two enormous protected trees into the design. The finished product is groundbreaking in every way, using natural products and innovative design to provide areas of significant function and form, complementing the stunning architecturally designed building and providing children with a wonderful place to play reminiscent of our New Zealand natural heritage.
The client had some firm ideas about what was required in the playground enveloping a brand new childcare building - including a personalised tiled 'star' incorporated into the concrete works. We were able to include all the design concepts into a large fully functional playground - the real test of this successful area was seeing the excitement of the client's own children when introduced to the playground for the first time.
