With close to a 3 metre drop across the playground, the focus (and challenge!) on this design was to create flat and functional playspaces.
An injection of nature into a cluster of townhouses and retail spaces, this early childcare centre was a complex site with level changes across the outdoor area.
In order to provide practical, flat and safe play areas for the children, the design uses a multitude of levels that stagger down from the building. Each level is still accessible via ramps that are connected via a central rotunda that has become the heart of the design.
Using the variance in heights to our advantage, we created fun routes for the kids to explore the space, including embankment slides off the main deck and huts with perspex floors to connect to children crawling through tunnels underneath.
A tough space to work with that challenged us to create something special.
